Coimbatore: RSS activists dismantle prayer hall decorated for Christmas

Coimbatore: Members of RSS on Saturday allegedly destroyed a prayer hall that was decked up for celebrating Christmas in Mathampalayam area of Coimbatore.

One of the victims Pastor Karthik who suffered a head injury alleged that Selvaraj, a government teacher along with his family members and 20 RSS men created chaos to disrupt the celebration, reported The News Minute.

“While we were celebrating, Selvaraj, his family members Kavitha, Chandrashekar and 20 RSS men hatched a plan in their home and suddenly barged into the church and vandalised everything. They also attacked the brothers and worshippers who had gathered in the church,” the pastor added.

There were other people as well who had suffered minor injuries, including a woman who got a fracture.

“We didn’t do anything wrong, just like everywhere, we wanted to celebrate Christmas and distribute a few things to the poor,” Karthik said.

According to the pastor, Selvaraj had been creating issues for last two months.

On the other hand, Coimbatore Special Branch Inspector Loganathan spoke to TNM and said that they have not filed an official complaint yet.

“We have not filed any official complaint, as there is a mistake on both the sides, although we are investigating the issue,” Loganathan said.

He disregarded the reports of communal violence and said that it was a residential area where they organised the meeting, although there were repeated requests of not doing so.
