Cocoon auction held for benefit of growers in Kashmir

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), [India], Oct. 21 (ANI): Despite the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley, the state government has organised a cocoon auction for the benefit of the growers at the sericulture headquarters in Srinagar.

As September and October are the only two months when the growers prepare their cocoons for sale, the BJP-PDP government held an auction to facilitate these farmers.

This cocoon auction market is set up so that the farmers can sell their cocoons at competitive rates to buyers from the within the state and from outside the state.

In this cocoon auction market, buyers from various parts of the country including West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka etc participated.

This year, cocoon growers got high rates as compared to last year due to the quality crop. The buyers from outside the state were of the view that Kashmiri cocoon were of good quality. The cocoon growers from Kashmir were also happy as they are getting good return from their production. (ANI)
