Mumbai: The Coast Guard on Monday rescued seven fishermen from a sinking boat off the Ratnagiri coast.

About 12 at noon, fishing boat Durga Ambika raised a distress alert on VHF Channel regarding flooding and sinking of fishing boat Mahez 26 nm (about 45 kms) northwest to Ratnagiri with seven fishermen.

Acting swiftly, the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (West) directed an interceptor boat, ICGS C 402, for sailing from Angre Port, which rescued the seven fishermen around 4p.m.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard ship C 402 de-flooded the distress boat by using submersible pump and towed it to Ratnagiri.
