CM’s press secretary member of energy cell

Hyderabad, January 18: A Chandrasekhar Reddy, the press secretary to chief minister, was today appointed as the member-secretary of the newly constituted Energy Coordination Cell in the Energy Department.

He was relieved of his earlier charge and was repatriated to his parent department. He will also hold the additional charge of executive director of APTransco.

Chandrasekhar Reddy joined as the chief public relations officer (CPRO) to the then chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in May 2005.

He was promoted as press secretary to CM in 2006 and was the same to former CM K Rosaiah too. He also served former chief minister K Vijayabhaskar Reddy.

The government on Monday issued orders for the establishment of the Energy Coordination Cell was constituted in accordance with the Centre’s advice to set up a government body to bring all power utility companies under the administrative control of the Energy department.

The Cell will communicate between all the power utility companies like APGENCO, APTRANSCO, four distribution companies (DISCOMS) and APPDCL for proper coordination and planning on various issues pertaining to generation, transmission and other issues.

Andhra Pradesh is the leading state in providing power for agriculture, diverting about 35 per cent of power during the peak season for this purpose.

The coordination cell will ensure communication with public about the achievement and issues of the sector.

Other members of the cell will be diverted from their original posts in the power utility companies.

The administrative control of the cell will remain with the principal secretary for Energy.
