CM to write Centre for urea price rollback

Hyderabad, February 20: Chief Minister K Rosaiah said he would write to the Centre requesting it to withdraw the hike in urea price, and maintained that the State and Central governments were committed to protecting the interests of the farmers.

In their adjournment motions, TDP, CPM and PRP members demanded a roll-back in the price of urea and sought a discussion on the issue in the House.

They alleged that the Central Government took the decision without regard to the fact that it would hurt the interests of the farmers. In this context, the chief minister said the rollback was not within the State Government’s ambit and that the Centre alone had the powers to revoke it. He, however, said he would write to the Centre conveying the fears of the farmers.
