CM wasn’t behind DGP’s transfer: APCC

Hyderabad, June 18: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today denied allegations of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) that state Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was behind the row between the Director General of Police (DGP) SSP Yadav and Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao.

Addressing a press conference here, party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy alleged the TDP was trying to politicise the delicate issue between an independent organisation and the state police administration.

The TDP was responsible for the incidents that happened during elections as they were bent upon making false propaganda on the DGP’s press conference on March 7 at Kurnool, in which he stated that the state government had given priority to the Law and order and sanctioned presence of 37,500 police personnel in the state, Mr Reddy alleged.

Though the DGP had undertaken three-day Singapore tour after obtaining the permission from the state government, the TDP had taken up false propaganda on his tour, he alleged, claiming that the state government through an order had given him permission for his official tour on March 16. The Election Commission had ordered for his replacement with Mr A K Mohanty as the DGP. However, as soon as the Congress government came to power after the recent elections, Mr Yadav was again appointed as DGP, replacing Mr Mohanty.

The DGP had written three letters to the CEO, asking reasons for his transfer during the elections. However, the CEO had responded to the first two letters by sending him a copy of the transfer order issued by the EC. The CEO had sought the Commission’s directive in this issue.
