Hyderabad, January 03: In a bid to woo deprived sections of society, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy celebrated New Year Day at a tribal colony in Hayatnagar on the outskirts of the city.
The chief minister made a surprise visit at Banjara colony near Hayathnagar on Saturday and sanctioned infrastructure facilities. When he visited one of the houses, the women offered him roti and dal. Kiran Reddy said he would come back after infrastructure facilities are put in place and “have biryani at the same house.”
During the surprise inspection at slums like Banjara colony, Ambedkar Nagar Basthi and Sudheer Kumar colony, the locals took their civic problems like lack of sewer lines, proper roads and drinking water supply to the notice of the CM.
He also noticed garbage heaps in the area and heard the woes of the slum dwellers. The locals said none of the 470 families living in the colony had pucca houses.
Addressing the locals, Kiran Reddy said all the eligible would be provided pucca houses under the Rajiv Awas Yojana scheme.
He assured to solve all their civic problems. He announced that sewer line would be provided at a cost of Rs 20 lakh and another Rs 3.37 crore were sanctioned for water supply to the colony.
He said another Rs 20 crore would be spent for installing an electric sub-station for the colony and nearby localities.
The chief minister and some cabinet ministers, however, faced some anxious moments as there were sparks on a nearby pole which was just a few yards away from the dais where the VIPs were seated.
