CM visits city’s rain-affected areas

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday directed the officials to take all precautionary measures to prevent any loss of life and property in view of the heavy rains in city and different parts of the State.

The Chief Minister over telephone directed GHMC Commissioner, District Collectors, Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, Commissioner, Disaster Management and top officials health to constantly monitor the situation in the areas which were lashed by heavy rains, particularly the low lying areas. He also visited low lying areas like Nagamiahkunta and areas near the Text Book Press at Khairatabad in the city in the morning and enquired about the problems of the people due to heavy rains. He also interacted with the local people and directed the officials concerned to take remedial measures to solve the problems of the people.

The Chief Minister asked the Health, Panchayat Raj and R&B officials to be on high alert and constantly monitor all vulnerable roads and culverts. He asked them to take up immediate repairs of minor breaches and ensure that there are no hardships to the public. He asked the officials to evacuate people from the low lying areas if needed. He also asked the Health officials to see that seasonal diseases or epidemics do not break out in the areas affected by heavy rains particularly in the low lying areas and slums. He asked them to keep medical teams and stocks of medicines ready.

Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted the District Collectors to monitor the situation round the clock and take all necessary steps to help the people particularly in the low lying areas. He asked the officials to pump out stagnated water from the roads and other water logged areas wherever necessary. He asked all the departments concerned to be ready with contingency plans for rescue and relief operations.

According to the Disaster Management Commissioner Dr T Radha, from 1st June, 2012 till Saturday, Hyderabad received a rainfall of 386.2 mm rains against the normal 139.2 mm i.e. 81 per cent excess. As far as the regions are concerned while Telangana received an average rainfall of 268.9 mm against the normal 229.4 mm i.e. 1.4 per cent excess, Rayalaseema received 132 mm against a normal rainfall of 139.2 mm i.e. 6.8 per cent less, and Andhra areas received an average rainfall of 241.8 mm against a normal rainfall of 215.8 mm i.e. 12.2 per cent excess.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed the Chittoor District Collector to provide medical assistance to the injured students in the reported electricity shock incident in the Government school of Kondareddypalli of the district.
