CM, US envoy stranded as lift goes kaput

Hyderabad, October 23: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday experienced embarrassing moments in front of US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer when the elevator in the C Block of the State Secretariat stopped working. Both were forced to wait for over 10 minutes till it was put back into operation.

Rosaiah arrived at the C Block at 10.50 a.m. and walked into the lobby to go to his office. To his surprise, he was told that the lift was not working since power supply was off. As his office is located on the sixth floor of the building, Rosaiah had no option but to wait for restoration of power supply.

Meanwhile, the US Ambassador arrived at the C Block since he had an appointment with Rosaiah at 11 a.m. Power supply did not resume even after the US Ambassador entered the lobby and a redfaced Rosaiah had to request him to wait for a while as the supply would be restored soon. Meanwhile, officials hurriedly brought chairs for both of them to sit. However, it took 10 minutes for the lift to acquire life and hoist them to the sixth floor. According to sources, the lift stopped working as a fuse went off in the C Block due to a technical problem. An inquiry has been ordered to fix responsibility and initiate action against the officials concerned.
