The Andhra Pradesh Wakf Security Council has appealed to the State government to cancel the pattas given to individuals in respect of Inam lands and allow only institutions to avail the benefit.
The Council general secretary Moin Qadeeri submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Thursday seeking cancellation of the pattas to individuals in Inam lands.
Qadeeri said that Inam lands were allotted for the services of Qazi, Khateeb, Imam, Mozan and others as a gift for rendering religious services by the government before 1947. He said that Inam Abolition Act was passed in 1955. According to the Act, only charitable trusts or religious institutions were eligible for pattas of Inam lands.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to cancel the pattas of Inam lands still existing in the name of some individuals and allow only the institutions to enjoy the benefits of the land. He said that 50,000 acres of religious services Inam land was existing in Telangana region. He urged the State government to safeguard and protect the Inam lands. (NSS)
