CM Urged to Gift Land, Cash Prizes to Women Players

Hyderabad, October 16: Congratulating the women players for winning
more medals in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Delhi,
the Congress senior leader, Dr P Shankar Rao, urged the State
government to gift them with land and cash prizes.

Speaking to the media at CLP office here on Saturday, Dr Shankar Rao
appealed the State and Central governments to announce 2010 as ‘Year
of the Women’ for exhibiting their strength and lifting India to
second place in the medals list. He said that the Union Minister, Mr S
Jaipal Reddy, who worked as incharge of the CWG, enhanced the pride of
Telugu people by conducting the games successfully.

Announcing his one-month salary as a gift to the winners of CWG from
the State, Dr Shankar Rao urged the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, to
announce sops to the winners as ‘Dussehara Gift’ today. He also urged
the government to help the Badminton Coach and official of the CWG,
from Andhra Pradesh, Mr Nani Prasad, who was struggling with
respiratory problem in a Delhi Hospital on humanitarian grounds.
