Vijayawada: To put Andhra Pradesh on the global map as a knowledge society, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the Vice-Chancellors of the State universities to transform their campuses into Skill Development Centers.
The Chief Minister interacted with the Vice-Chancellors here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Chandrababu Naidu said, “Universities must be places of inventions, innovative ideas, with the faculty training students to increase their knowledge,” he said. He also asked the VCs to adopt corrective measures to regain the past glory of universities that earned a bad reputation due to untoward incidents in the past. The Chief Minister suggested holding of discussions and activities on the government’s initiatives such as Interlinking of the rivers and drought-proofing the State and carrying out appropriate suggestions to the government.
Stating the future leaders and young entrepreneurs are made on the campuses, he said, universities should adopt a constructive approach to inculcate leadership qualities among students. The Chief Minister pointed out that his government has appointed industrialists as members of the universities’ senates to drive their growth and assist students in providing opportunities for skill development. He asked the VCs to conduct convocation ceremonies to drive students to choose the best career option in their respective fields. (NSS)
