Hyderabad, August 11: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday asked officials to expedite the payment of insurance claims to the farmers who have suffered losses during Kharif- 2010.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that the National Agriculture Insurance Corporation (NAIC) is expected to release the insurance compensation amounting to Rs 791 crore.
Over the last five years, settlement of insurance claims used to take more than a year due to the various procedures.
However, this year as per the Chief Minister’s instructions, the Agriculture Commissioner and the local insurance officials have taken special interest and as a result the amount is being released within 8 to 9 months.
Of the Rs 791 crore being released, Srikakulam will get Rs 121crores, East Godavari will Rs 122 crore, West Godavari Rs 145 crore, Krishna Rs 102 crore, Anantapur Rs 128 crore, Kadapa Rs101 crore while the remaining amount would be distributed to other districts depending upon the extent of crop loss.
The State government will share 50 per cent while the remaining will be by the insurance agency. The Chief Minister who reviewed with the officials asked them to see that immediately after the release of the amount, it should be disbursed to the districts and ensure that it reaches the farmers without a day’s delay.
