CM to seek demolition of Babli gates

Hyderabad, August 02: Demolish Babli gates’ This would be the stand of the AP government when chief minister K Rosaiah discusses the issue with his Maharashtra counterpart Ashok Chavan at a meeting called by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Delhi tomorrow.

This was the consensus that emerged at an all-party meeting convened by Rosaiah at his camp office a day ahead of the Delhi conclave.

Those who attended the meeting with Rosaiah were: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, Praja Rajyam party leader K Vidyadhar Rao, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader R Vidyasagar Rao, Communist Party of India state secretary Narayana, Communist Party of IndiaMarxist state secretary Raghavulu, Lok Satta party president N Jayaprakash Narayana and Majlis legislator Pasha Khadri.

Speaking to reporters after the allparty meeting, Chandrababu Naidu said if the Prime Minister fails to show a satisfactory solution to the issue, the TDP would revive the agitation. He said that the gates of the Babli project should be demolished as the Supreme Court had already ordered that Maharashtra should not be allowed to use the water of the project since a contempt petition was pending before the apex court.

Naidu categorically stated that only a political solution was possible and Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister must take initiative in this regard.

Praja Rajyam party leader K Vidyadhar Rao said that the Prime Minister should order Maharashtra not to store water in Babli. He wanted a regulatory commission on the sharing of Godavari river water.

View of all parties noted: Major irrigation minister P Laxmaiah said that the chief minister had noted all the points suggested by the opposition and they would be incorporated in the memorandum to be submitted to the Prime Minister tomorrow. He informed that the government had already informed the Centre about the foul play of Maharashtra.
