CM reviews power projects, releases Rs 346 Cr

The Telangana Government on Wednesday released Rs 346 crore to BHEL towards the equity contribution out of Rs 1,000 crores for establishment of Kothagudem TPS-VII (1×800 MW) power project.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs.5548.44 Crores. The State Government had issued the Letter of Intent (LOI) to BHEL to take up the work for Rs.3810 crores and as such the BHEL has to be paid 10 per cent of contract value as advance of Rs.346 Crores.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao handed over the cheque to BHEL CMD Prasad Rao at his camp office here on Wednesday. Addressing the review meeting on power, the Chief Minister directed the Telangana Genco to focus on early completion of all power projects in the State. Besides, the adding the capacity of 800 MW in Kothagudem project, the BHEL will be working on 1080 MW project being constructed at a cost of Rs 4,200 crore.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to maintain total transparency in early completion of the power projects. He said that the timely completion of power projects would make Telangana a power surplus State in the next three years. Explaining the details about plant designs, boilers, turbines and other technicalities, the BHEL CMD sought the government’s assistance in early completion of civil works.

The Chief Minister said that efforts are being made for construction of a thermal power plant of 7600 MW capacity in Nalgonda. Further, efforts are on construct a power plant in Jaipur of Adilabad district.

Ministers K Tarakarama Rao, Tummala Nageshwara Rao and Jagadish Reddy and TS GENCO CMD Prabhakar Rao were also present. (INN)
