CM reviews drought situation

Hyderabad, January 11 (INN): Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday reviewed the drought situation prevailing in various districts of the State with ministers and officials and about the reports to be sent to the Centre.

Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Disaster Management Commissioner and other senior officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister asked the Revenue Department to immediately sent the drought memorandum to the Centres.

Based on the detailed reports of District Collectors, 876 Mandals have already been declared as drought-affected in different spells. After drought declaration a drought memorandum is to be submitted to the Union Ministry of Agriculture, seeking Central assistance. As per the Joint Enumeration Reports of Agriculture and Revenue departments as against sown area of 77.86 lakh hectares during kharif 2011 a total area of 34.24 lakh hectares has been damaged including 4.50 lakh hectares of other farmers including big farmer. As many as 51.53 lakh farmers were affected in 876 drought affected mandals, out of 100.56 lakh small and marginal farmers in the State 48.3 lakh SF/MF were affected due to drought. Around 3.21 lakh other farmers (big farmers) out of total (21.1 lakh other farmers) were also affected.

An extent of 45,912.27 ha area under fruit plantation vegetable crops have been affected in 10 districts. (INN)
