Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has requested the Centre through a letter addressed to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Chairperson of Group of Ministers and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma to permit export of additional 20 lakh bales of cotton and that the exports be extended till May 31st of this year.
The Chief Minister in the letter explained that at present the market rate for Cotton is Rs 3,600 per quintal and if exports are not permitted the present rate is likely to come down which will affect the farmers badly. To ensure remunerative price to the Cotton farmers, the Chief Minister has requested Government of India to permit additional 20 lakh bales of cotton export and extend the export till May 31st. (INN)
