Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has requested the Centre to permit export of addtional 20 lakh bales of cotton.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma, copies of which were released to media here, the Chief Minister explained that at present, market rate for cotton was Rs 3,600 per quintal and if exports were not permitted, the rate was likely to come down which will affect the farmer badly.
To ensure remunerative price to the cotton, the Chief Minister has requested the Union Government to permit additional 20 lakh bales of cotton export and also to extend the date of exports upto May 31. UNI
