CM proposes Southern Industrial Corridor

Hyderabad, June 07: The State Government is contemplating development of a Southern Industrial Corridor that stretches from Bangalore to Chennai covering Andhra Pradesh.

To be modelled on the lines of Delhi-Mumbai industrial development corridor, this one, Chief Minister K Rosaiah hopes will help the government optimise Krishna-Godavari basin gas for the overall development of the State. Besides, satellite townships with all modern amenities can come up along the corridor.

The corridor once operational will also supplement the activities of the ambitious petrol, chemical and petrochemical investment region coming up between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. The number of ports, which are already operational along the region, will also be able to export more.

The Chief Minister, during a teleconference with Industries Minister K Lakshminarayana and Chief Secretary SV Prasad here on Sunday, directed them to prepare a blue print for the proposed corridor so that the state could seek the Centre’s approval and assistance, an official release said.

The Chief Minister also recalled his recent interaction with representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry and said the the industry was keen on hosting Global Investors’ Summit in Hyderabad this year. The summit, aimed at showcasing the potential of the state and maintaining the state’s brand image as the most favoured investment destination, is expected to be held in November.
