Hyderabad, September 13: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today paid rich tributes to Nobel laureate and agricultural scientist Norman Borlaug, who died due to cancer in Dallas, Texas, today.
The Chief Minister recalled the services of Borlaug, who had played an important role in agriculture and was credited with savings hundreds of millions of lives from hunger. Borlaug was widely described as the father of the movement of Green Revolution.
He has developed disease-resistant wheat used to fight famine in poor countries. His contribution to agriculture science has greatly improved the food security besides achieving self sufficiency in producing cereal grains in the country, the Chief Minister said.
In his death, the world especially the fraternity of agriculture has lost an illustrious scientist, an agronomist and a humanitarian, the Chief Minister said.
