CM pays tributes to Jyotirao Phula

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, noted social reformer on the occasion of his 186th birth anniversary to be observed on Wednesday.

In a message on Tuesday, the Chief Minister described Jyothirao Phule as a revolutionary, who fought for reservations for Backward Classes in education, employment and political posts. Phule, a messiah of Backward Classes not only strived for their uplift but opened schools exclusively for women and promoted widow marriages.

The State Government has recently sanctioned 300 college boys hostels along with staff. The government has also given age relaxation and extended by another 5 years for employment and education. The government has also revived the BC Corporation and 7 other corporations related to Backward Classes with an outlay of Rs 209 Crores in 2012-13 budget, the Chief Minister said.

Stating that Jyothirao Phule fought for social justice during the 19th century, the Chief Minister exhorted the youth to emulate his high ideals. (INN)
