On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reiterated his commitment to ensure the benefits of all the welfare and developmental programmes initiated by the state government reach the poorest of the poor, as advocated by Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation on the eve of Mahatma’s birthday on October 2, the Chief Minister recalled Gandhiji’s words that while taking up development or welfare programmes and initiating any social security schemes, the government should think of the poorest of the poor. The Chief Minister described Mahatma Gandhiji as the Apostle of peace and non-violence.
The Chief Minister said his government would strive to realise Gandhiji’s dream of a welfare State where the people were provided with equal opportunities and where everyone lived with satisfaction.
He pointed out that majority of the people in the State are benefitted by at least four or five welfare schemes like Re-1-a-kg rice scheme, loans at zero per cent interest (‘vaddi leni runalu’) to farmers and SHG women, fee reimbursement and Post Matric scholarships to all eligible SC, ST, BC, EBC, Minorities students, Rajiv Yuva Kirnanlu, SC, ST sub plan, Indiramma houses, Indiramma Baata, 1.16 lakh Government jobs, Indira Jala Prabha to make fallow land cultivable particularly helping the tribals, stree nidhi, Mee seva (about 100 services through ‘Mee Seva’ centres in a transparent and quick manner) etc.
He reminded that the United Nations General Assembly has already decided to observe International Day of Non-Violence every year on October 2, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhiji’s birth anniversary, thanks to the all-out persuasion from UPA chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi.
“Let us all work on Gandhian lines of peace, progress and equality of opportunity to one and all,” the Chief Minister said.(NSS)
