Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu were involved in heated exchanges during the debate on motion of thanks for Governor’s address in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly today. Mr Naidu, while speaking on the motion, came down heavily on the government and said it failed to impress upon the Central Government to send a team to assess the drought situation in the State. He also made gesticulations towards the treasury benches while stating that the Congress Government in the state had failed to come to the rescue of the farmers by failing to announce a bonus price for paddy, to emulate the gesture shown by the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, karnataka and Kerala. Intervening, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said Mr Naidu was unable to digest the verdict given to his party by the people in the 2009 Assembly Elections and was still wondering how the mandate went against his party. He said the opposition will have its say and the government would have its way. Mr Naidu said he had not uttered any unparliamentary word during his speech and told the Chief Minister that in 1994 when the Congress had secured only 26 seats and did not even enjoy status of being the main Opposition. he had allowed the party to have its say in the house.
