CM to launch scheme in Chevella on Nov 1

Hyderabad, October 22: Besides giving an assurance that he would continue all the programmes and schemes undertaken by former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister K Rosaiah has decided to launch `Dr YSR Abhaya Hastham’ scheme from Chevella in Rangareddy district, a place mostly preferred and seen as a sentiment for late YSR for launch of programmes. Rosaiah would launch the scheme by handing over policy certificates to the enrolled members at Chevella on Nov 1.

The policy certificates would be distributed in all the mandals through local MLAs and public representatives between November 1 and 10.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting with senior officials concerned at the Secretariat today.

It may be recalled that the Government had formulated a co-contributory pension and insurance scheme for Self Help Group (SHG) women members in rural and urban areas with an intention to provide monthly income and social security to them. SERP has identified LIC of India as a fund manager to manage pension funds and management of individual pension accounts of Abhaya Hastham beneficiaries. At the review meeting, the Chief Minister has decided to release the Government’s co-contribution of Rs.15 crore per month on a regular basis.

He directed the senior officials to verify thoroughly the eligibility and other details of the beneficiaries.

Rosaiah also directed the officials to take steps for opening of bank accounts of the members for payment of pension through bio-metric system to prevent malpractices. In this regard, it was decided that an Memorandum of Understanding would be signed with the LIC on October 27.

In all, about 50 lakh SHG women members have already been enrolled in the scheme and had paid their annual contribution of Rs.365 each to the Mandal Samakhyas to be transferred to the LIC. Of the 50 lakhs, about 4.5 lakh members have crossed 60 years of age and are now eligible to receive pension from November onwards.
