Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the unique “Amma Hastham” scheme on Ugadi Day on Thursday at Ravindra Bharathi. This is the first of its kind scheme in the country to help the poor and common people in the State.
Under the scheme, 2.25 crore white card holders in the State would be provided with nine essential commodities in one package for Rs 185 every month. This would benefit some 7.5 crore s people, almost 90 per cent of the State’s population. The nine items costing Rs 292 will be provided for Rs 185. Each family would be benefited by Rs 107 per month. The Rs 185 package contains one kg toor dal, one liter palm oil, one kg whole meal atta, one kg wheat, half-a-kg sugar, one kg salt, a quarter kg chilli powder, half-a-kg tamarind and 100 gram turmeric powder.
It may be recalled here that about 2.25 crore white card holding families are already being given quality rice at Re 1 per kg every month and 7.5 crore people are benefited by this.
The Chief Minister formally launched the ‘mana biyyam’ scheme at Lalitha Kalathoranam here on January 16. Under the scheme, ‘quality’ rice procured in the State was being distributed to the people through the Ration shops.
