As part of his visit to the irrigation projects, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao this morning visited Medaram (Package 6) in Pedapalli district, Ramadugu (Package 8) in Karimnagar district and examined the underground works.
The Chief Minister examined the tunnels, pump houses, surge pools, sub-stations and switch yards. Water lifted from Medigadda will reach Yellampally via Annaram and Sundilla. From Yellampally, the water will reach underground surge pool on the outskirts of Medaram village through a 9.53km tunnel. The tunnels were constructed in 10 Diameters āDā shaped radius.
The CM keenly inspected the tunnel. Transco CMD D Prabhakar Rao informed him that to pump water from underground Surge pool to Medaram Tank, seven pump sets of 124.5 MW capacity were being set up. The CMD also informed the CM that since the whole terrain was with hillocks and forest area, the 400 MW Sub station was also constructed underground.
The BHEL officials, who were entrusted with manufacturing of the pump sets have also spoken to the Chief Minister. BHEL GM Sundarajan said of the seven pump sets, two will be fixed by next June and the rest by December next year. The CM said the crucial phase would be when water will be lifted for 105 Mt from Kannepally to reach Medaram through Sundilla. He wanted all the works to be done by next summer and keep everything ready to pump and lift water.
The CM also examined works taking place from Medaram to Ramadugu. Minister T Harish Rao, Irrigation E-in-C Muralidhar, CE Venkateshwarlu have explained to the CM about the progress in works. The CM has examined the 15 Km tunnel, 5.7 Km canal from Medaram to Ramadugu (Laxmipur). The CM visited pump house, surge pool, 400 KV Sub Station at Laxmipur. CMD Prabhakar Rao said arrangements were made for the supply of 973 MW of power required to run seven pumps having the capacity of 129 MW to lift water from Laxmipur.
The CM instructed that the water lifted from Medaram and Laxmipur should be flown into the flood canal at 99th Km. He wanted arrangements to be made to pump 2 TMC of water every day. He wanted the water should be drawn in large quantities from the Godavari from the next Monsoon. The CM also wanted 1 TMC should be supplied to SRSP and another 1 TMC to Mid Maner. He said the crucial phase of work in Kaleswaram project was in the process of water reaching the flood canal from Medigadda Barrage and Kannepally pump house and hence the works should be done with quality and high standards. He wanted all the works should be done simultaneously.
The CM interacted with the officials, engineers, and representatives of the working agencies and gave suggestions. Ministers T Harish Rao, Etela Rajender, Govt Chief Whip koppula Eshwar, Government Advisor G Vivek, MPs Vinod Kumar, Balka Suman, Chief Secretary SP Singh, DGP Sri Mahender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) SK Joshi, TS Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao accompanied the CM.
Review meeting on Kaleswaram Project
The CM also decided to have a full-length review meeting on the Kaleswaram project works at Pragati Bhavan on Saturday. The CM will review the issues he had observed during his visit. (NSS)
