Hyderabad, January 01: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials to complete the 158-km Outer Ring road (ORR ) stretch in all respects by December 2012.
On Friday, the chief minister along with half a dozen ministers made an inspection of the 38-km strecth from Peddamberpet to Shamshabad which was completed recently. He also directed HMDA to complete the stretch from Narsingi to Patancheru (23.7 km), whose expected date is April 2011.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said this was one of the prestigious projects to be undertaken in the country. The main objective of the ORR is decongest traffic in Greater Hyderabad.
The ORR project comprising eightlane access-controlled expressway along with four lanes of service road is first of its kind in India.
Of the `7,000 crore for the project, the HMDA has spent `3,500 crore already. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is extending loan assistance to the tune of `3,123 crore.
HMDA officials said that with complete construction of the sixlane Road overbridge (RoB) across the railway track will facilitate traffic movement from Gachibowli to Peddamberpet (62 km) on NH-9.
Four lanes from Gachibowli to Shamshabad on NH-7 was allowed for traffic in November 2008.
Whereas the 38-km stretch from Patancheru to Shameerpet would be completed by December 2011, the final 33-km stretch from Shameerpet to Peddamberpet will be completed by December 2012.
