Hyderabad, June 03: Chief Minister of A.P. Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the renovation work of Nizamia Tibbi College on 4th June for which Rs. 4 crore has been sanctioned. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had promised financial assistance to Nizamia Tibbi College on the occasion of Rachabanda programme held at Barkas.
Commissioner AYUSH Ms. D. Aruna visited Tibbi College and reviewed the construction work to be undertaken. Present on this occasion were Dr. Mohammed Rafee Ahmed, Superintendent, Nizamia General Hospital, Dr. Kaleemullah Khan, Vice Principal, Nizamia Tibbi College, Dr. Jawad Pasha, President Unani Medical officers, Assocation. Dr. Hyder Yamani General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Saleem, Dr. Hamidullah Khan Dr. Azeem Ahmed Sayeed and others. Nizam of Hyderabad had established Nizamia Unani Medical College and Hospital in 1938. This is an old building which needs repairs.
The Chief Minister has called for the report after the publication of the news item in the media. Dr. Rafee Ahmed told that Commissioner AYUSH has been apprised of the problems of the college and hospital. It is hoped that the Govt. would take steps to resolve them. Of late, it has been noticed that due to awareness and popularity of the Unani system of medicines, the number of patients has increased but there is a shortage of medicines. There are 65-75 posts of para-medical staff still vacant.
There is an operation theatre in the hospital but there is no surgeon available. Hence surgical operations are not being performed. The number of beds has not been increased ever since the hospital was established. The major problem the Unani hospital is facing is the eviction of Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital though a new building has already been constructed for it. When the students went on strike for its eviction, the Govt. promised a number of times to shift the Ayurvedic Hospital but the promise has not yet been fulfilled. It is causing anxiety among the staff and students of Nizamia Tibbi College.
