Keeping in view the magnitude of the biggest ever Biodiversity International meet in Hyderabad from Ooctober 1 to 19 and the coordination requirements, a State Steering Committee with Ministers has been formed headed by the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Ministerial Delegations from 193 countries will be participating in the Convention being held first time in the country. This includes 20 Heads of countries and Ministers from 90 countries.
Hyderabad has been declared as the Biodiversity Capital of the country. The Chief Minister , who held a detailed meeting with Ministers, Chief Secretary, Hyderabad City Mayor, Senior Secretaries and Principal Secretaries over the event here, said Vice President, Prime Minister of India will be Chief Guests in different days of the Conference in which Heads of other countries will also participate. The Chief Minister asked all the departments to initiate all steps required by different departments concerned. About 2,000 mediapersons are likely to cover the event. The Chief Minister also asked the Police Officials to take care of strict security arrangements since Heads of Departments from many countries and Ministers and other High level delegations will also be participating.
It is estimated that more than Rs.1,000 crs are required and the United Nations and Government of India along with Government of Andhra Pradesh will be financing the event. 2011 to 2012 has been declared as UN decade of Biodiversity. This is the 11th International Conference of Parties and it is a prestigious event for both Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India. The last Biodiversity conference was held at Nagoya -Japan. Earlier, the Chief Minister also released a brochure on the biodiversity brought out by the National Green Crops. UNI
