The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has expressed his pleasure at the MoU signed by the state government with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) on supply of gas to the state.
The Chief Minister has participated in the signing in programme along with the union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas S Jaipal Reddy. Under this MoU, GAIL would supply additional gas to the power generating units of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that power consumption has increased by leaps and bounds in Andhra Pradesh. He said development would be possible only when power could be supplied at cheaper and affordable rates. He said the government was spending Rs. 4 to 5 crores to just add one Mega Watt of power to the generation capacity. He said there was shortage of power and gas to generate it in the state and the power shortage would be met to certain extent with the additional supply of gas.
The Chief Minister has also met the AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwiwedi in Delhi on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, he has met Motilal Ohra, party senior leader. Vohra has later told the media that it was just a courtesy call and there was no political importance to it.
