Hyderabad, June 26: Chief Minister K Rosaiah today gave the nod for sanctioning of teacher and supervisory staff posts by the Tribal Welfare Department.
He was reviewing the functioning of the department with the minister for tribal welfare P Balaraju and officials.
For the first time a full-time Secretary, KV Satyararayana, has been posted to Gurukulam. The State Cabinet has also approved sanctioning of 2,151 teacher posts and recruitment is under way.
The chief minister was told that the total strength of tribal welfare institutions was 2,98,600 (1,59,252 girls and 1,39,349 boys). There were in all 1313 institutions, including ashram schools, hostels and residential schools.
Rosaiah lauded the performance of Gurukulam students in the recently-held SSC examinations which 93.62% of the students cleared whereas the State average was 81.63%.
As part of the Economic Support Schemes, coffee plantation was taken up in 1985. During 201011, over 12,000 acres will be planted with coffee and 20,000 acres with silver oak for shade.
In 200809, Government issued orders for a rubber plantation project in RC Varam ITDA , East Godavari district, covering 31,000 acres over a period of 6 years at a total cost of Rs 166.02 crore. This was funded under the NREGS. Appointment of 1937 cooks and kamatis and setting up of 126 post-matric hostels are in progress.
The chief minister expressed satisfaction that the Government of India had sanctioned Rs 206.77 crore for 42 ashram schools in Naxalite-affected areas in Khammam district. The budget allocation for 201011 was Rs 901.59 crore, making for an increase of Rs 130.59 crore over the previous year.
The meeting also discussed filling of 576 teaching staff posts. Of 23 districts, DTWO posts had been created in 21 districts except Kadapa and Hyderabad. It was stated that over a period of time the workload had increased with regard to sanctioning of scholarships and maintenance of hostels and other institutions. Hence the Chief Minister was requested to okay separate DTWOs in Hyderabad and Kadapa with support staff.
Minister P Balaraju, Chief Secretary S V Prasad, Commissioner, Tribal Welfare, Shanthi Kumari, Secretary, Gurukulam, K V Satyanarayana, Principal Secretary, Finance, L V Subramaniam and other officials attended the meeting.
