CM directs to take all steps to meeting the power demand next in 2 mon

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today directed the AP Transco and other Discoms officials to take all precautions in the next two months because of the peak summer in meeting the power demands in the State. At a review meeting here, the Chief Minister asked the power officials to see that the farmers are not put to any hardships and that crops are not affected due to power supply interruptions. He also gave strict instructions that power supply is not interrupted from 1800 to to 0600 for the domestic sector since the examinations are on, an official release here said. Officials told the Chief Minister that the demand for power is growing with every passing day and touched an all time high of 304.2 MU on March 14.

The peak demand met during March upto 16 is 11,887 MW as against 11780 MW during the same period last year registering an increase of 0.91 per cent, the release said. ‘Power supply is our top priority and crops should not get damaged due to power supply interruptions’, the Chief Miniser said and asked the officials top priority should be given to replacement of distribution transformers wherever needed. Officials explained that call centres are being operationalised. Whenever a consumer makes a call, a task is created and immediately action is taken. Each sub division has a vehicle to transport the transformers. The Chief Minister said that in some discoms commissioning of substations has to be speeded up. Sub-station meetings have to take place more frequently. He advised the Discoms to hold the sub-station meetings immediately after the Assembly session is over. The Chief Minister asked the officials to be on constant vigil about the power situation and a regular monitoring should be done in all the Discoms,the release added. UNI
