Hyderabad, July 07: Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the Collegiate Education officials to finalise necessary guidelines for reimbursement of fees in respect of students belonging to economically backward classes within a week.
According to a press release, the Chief Minister in response to a news item published in a section of the press today, has directed the senior education officials to take steps to ensure that the colleges concerned admit the students without insisting on payment of fees. He wanted a circular to be issued to all the colleges in the State to this effect immediately.
Rajasekhara Reddy further said that counselling exercise has begun in all the universities and many students were appearing to the counsel with an intention that the Government would bear their fee. But, the officials were insisting on fee payment in the absence of guidelines, he pointed out.
It may be recalled that the State Government has taken a decision to apply fee reimbursement to economically backward class students also whose parents annual income was below Rs. One lakh per annum, on par with SC, ST, BC and minorities. A sum of Rs.360 crore was allocated in the current budget for the purpose.
Principal Secretary to Finance G Sudheer, Principal Secretary to Higher Education Lakshmi Parthasarathy and Commissioner of Collegiate Education Somesh Kumar were present.
