CM directs officials to complete irrigation projects on time

Hyderabad, August 13: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today asked the Irrigation officials to speed up the work on various projects and complete them within fixed time period.

The Chief Minister, at a review meeting of the irrigation projects said the State Government has allocated adequate funds and the projects should be completed with definite time.

He told the officials ”You have the money now, you should fasten up your belts and see that the works are completed and water reaches the farmer at the earliest”. ”I do not want to hear any excuses now”. ”You have to solve them and go ahead. No more delays”.

Dr Reddy reviewed five Projects-GNSS-Phase-I, Gandikota Lift Irrigation Project, Gandikota Reservoir to Chitravati Balancing Reservoir (CBR) Lift Scheme, Lingala Canal and Pulivendula Branch Canal. The officials and engineers assured the Chief Minister that all these projects would be completed by next Kharif season. Since the contractor of Pulivendula Branch Canal could not complete the work on schedule, major portion of work was pending like CC lining including repairs and improvements of structures, it was decided to appoint another contractor to complete the work at the earliest.

The Chief Minister said hereafter in his review meetings he would like to know how much of work had been completed, why there was delay in completing the project, when it would be completed, major issues to be solved like R&R, Land Acquisition, design, structure etc. He said he is sure all other issues would be resolved through discussions. According to a chief Minister’s office release, Dr Reddy reiterated that the officials should be considerate to the peoples demand and solve their demands. However, the work should go on unhampered.
