CM defends imposition of FSA on power consumers

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday said that the State Government has imposed Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) charges on consumers of power due to unavoidable conditions.

Talking to media persons at the Council Hall after the Congress Legislature Party meeting at Jubilee Hall, the Chief Minister said that the government imposed FSA on consumers of power as DISCOMs in the State were facing revenue deficit of Rs 11,000 crore. To meet the huge deficit, he said that the government has imposed Rs 5,000 crore FSA on consumers of electricity. However, the Chief Minister admitted that the government would bear the remaining burden of Rs 6,000 crore. He dismissed reports that FSA would inflate the bill of power consumers.

Stating that the government was making all efforts to tackle the shortage of gas for generation of power, he said that it has reached a pact with Gas Authority of India Limited for the supply of 2.25 mmscmd of gas to generate 500 MW of power. He said that power crisis in the state would be eased out by 2013 with the laying of special lines by Power Grid Corporation Limited.

Admitting the shortage of doctors in the villages, he said that the government proposes to reach a contract agreement with the local doctors to avail their services in the villages. He said that the government has sent a proposal to the Centre over the increase of providing employability under the NREGS. (INN)
