CM critics write to AICC opposing division of MCD

New Delhi, April 21: A day after targeting Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the proposed splitting of the MCD, some of her detractors today wrote letters to the AICC, strongly criticising the move to divide the civic body.

In a letter to AICC General Secretary in-charge of Delhi Birender Singh, Uttam Nagar MLA Mukesh Sharma said any division of the civic body ahead of next year’s municipal polls will adversely affect the party.

Sharma, who had attacked Dikshit at a DPCC meeting yesterday, also said that he never supported any division of the civic body as claimed by a loyalists of Dikshit.

Senior Congress councillor Jaikishan Sharma has also written a letter to Singh, protesting government’s decision to split the MCD.

In his letter, Sharma said most of the 74 Congress councillors in MCD are opposed to the proposal.

Sharma also questioned the decision making process in the government and said the issue should have been discussed on party forum.

In a politically-sensitive move, the Delhi cabinet last week had decided “in principle” to split the MCD into five smaller bodies ahead of the 2012 municipal polls.

Sources said Singh is preparing a report on yesterday’s meeting as well as on divergent views in the party about government’s proposal to split the MCD.

Party MLAs Sharma and Hasan Ahmed launched a direct attack on Dikshit, severely criticising her style of functioning at a DPCC meeting which was organised to welcome the newly appointed AICC in-charge of Delhi unit.

Dikshit and all her ministerial colleagues were present at the meeting.

Slamming the proposal to split the MCD, Sharma even said the government “should not be run like a private limited company.”

DPCC chief J P Aggarwal also indirectly targeted Dikshit for her style of functioning.

Apparently Dikshit has also sent a report to the AICC about last week’s CLP meeting which had supported the Government’s decision to split the MCD.
