The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today expressed grief over the demise of Padma Vibhushan C R Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib, distinguished former IAS officer in Chennai. The Chief Minister recalled late Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib’s yeoman services as Cabinet Secretary when late Smt. Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister of India, as Principal Secretary to the then Prime Minister Charan Singh, Secretary to the then Chief Minister Jalagam Vengal Rao and in several other capacities in State and Centre.
The Chief Minister said Late Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib was an ICS and IAS officer and belonged to Andhra Pradesh. He was awarded the second highest civilian honour of India, the Padma Vibhushan in 2006 besides the Great Maratha Award in 2009. The Chief Minister said Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib’s grandfather was R Ramachandra Rao, Collector of Nellore who helped Srinivasa Ramanujan during the latter’s formative years. Kiran Kumar Reddy said late Krishnaswamy was one of ablest senior IAS officer who served in many departments in the Government of India with distinction.
The Chief Minister also recalled the services of late Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib as Under Secretary, revenue department, secretary, Land Regulatory Commission, Deputy Secretary, Revenue Department, Joint Chief Controller of Imports & Exports, Madras, Joint Director, Industrial Promotions, New Delhi, Secretary, Food Corporation of India and Secretary, Revenue. He also served as Secretary to C.M. and Ex-Officio Secretary to G.A.D., Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Secretary to Government of India (Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms), and then as Cabinet Secretary, Government of India from 30-4-1981 to 28-02-1985 till he retired.
The Chief Minister said Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib was a great visionary and played a stellar role in the making of the Integrated Guided Missile Programme of India during 1980s when there was a tremendous requirement of the same for the Armed forces. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said Sri Krishaswamy Rao Sahib was an officer with rare courage and conviction.
The Chief Minister said in the demise of Sri Krishnaswamy Rao Sahib, Andhra Pradesh loses one of great sons and the Nation a great visionary senior bureaucrat who served India in various capacities. The Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members. (NSS)
