UNI) The Ruling Congress Party condemned communal riots which broke out in Saidabad and Madannapet areas in the old city yesterday and in some parts the state recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said today.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Mr Reddy said those who indulge in or instigate the communal riots will be dealt with sternly.
The Chief Minister said he had directed the Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner A K Khan to take up the issue seriously.
He said orders were issued to the DGP to direct the superintendents of police in the state to monitor thorougly ‘communally senstive’ areas in the state.
The Chief Minister said police would identify the perpetrators and take stern action.
The Chief Minister said a proposal for installing CCTV cameras in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad was almost approved.
As many as 5,000 cameras were required. The government is working out the issues of finance for this, he said.
Assuring that the Congress government would ensure that there would not be any communal riots or crimes in Hyderabad, Mr Reddy said necessary steps would be taken for it and sought the cooperation of media to maintain restraint.
