CM clears 1.5 lakh farm power connections

Hyderabad, October 11: Chief minister K Rosaiah has cleared a proposal of the power utilities to provide 1.5 lakh new power connections for agriculture pumpsets. The pumpsets would be provided free power during 2010-11.

The decision had been taken at a review meeting on the power sector today. With this, the long-pending desire of farming community has been fulfilled.

AP Transco officials informed the chief minister that they had prepared an action plan to supply quality power for the agriculture and industry sectors as desired by them.

The chief minister had a brief meeting over the issues of power supply with chief secretary S V Prasad, principal secretary to CM C V S K Sarma, energy department principal secretary Suthirtha Bhattacharya, AP Transco CMD Ajay Jain and other officials.

During the meeting, Rosaiah had directed the AP Transco / Discoms to provide all these new power connections to farmers on a war-footing before March, 2011.

Meanwhile, the AP Transco which won a number of national awards once again established that it is one of the most efficient power utilities in the country. The chief minister congratulated Transco CMD Ajay Jain for bagging the Best Performing Power Utility (State) award under the “Utilities and T&D Awards (ENERTIA-2010)”.

The award was conferred on the AP Transco in recognition of its efforts in achieving the lowest T&D losses in the country and for maintaining an impressively high Transmission System Availability. The chief minister congratulated Ajay Jain on the occasion.

Additional JMD (Distribution & HRD) of Transco K Ranganatham received the honour at Mumbai. The AP Transco officials apprised the chief minister that transmission and distribution (T&D) losses of Andhra Pradesh for the financial year 2009-10 were 18.51 per cent which was the lowest in the country. The T&D losses during 2000-01 were 34.8 per cent.

The significant reduction in T&D losses had been made possible by implementing a number of effective and efficient measures. Many initiatives like implementation of innovative technologies, installation of continuous monitoring systems and continuous regulation of operations of Discoms were executed to achieve improvement in performance, both technically and economically, ensuring high quality power supply.
