CM, chief secretary to choose names for CEO post

Hyderabad, October 12: The state government is likely to send names of four senior IAS officers to the Election Commission for appointment as the state chief electoral officer in the next 10 days. A panel consisting of chief minister K Rosaiah and chief secretary S V Prasad will choose the names.

The chief electoral officer’s post fell vacant with the transfer of I V Subba Rao to Union home ministry. The ECI has directed the additional secretary of the CEO’s office to take charge and, in the same orders, requested the state government to send names for appointment of a new CEO. Since there is no deadline to fill the post, the state government is taking its own time in deciding the names. As per established norms, the state government has to choose a senior and non-controversial IAS officer for the post. Keeping this in mind, the panel is scouting for officers in the state administration who could match the requirements of the ECI.
