CM calls for stepping up of hydro-power generation

Hyderabad, September 08: In what could be attributed as a departure from earlier practises Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy gave an inkling into his visionary plans on Wednesday.

Buoyed by the steady rainfall this season, Mr Reddy exhorted officials to plan for the summer from this moment onwards. He made this suggestion when he interacted with senior officials from the Energy department during a review meeting on the power sector here today.

He directed both Irrigation and Energy department to intensify operations and maximise hydro-power in the State. He was responding when told that the hydro-power generation had grown by leaps and bounds.

Mr Reddy wanted the officials to monitor the situation on a regular basis and keep the people posted about all aspects concerning power generation.

The Chief Minister urged the officials to take up all precautionary measures so as to meet energy demands in summer. It may be noted that power and energy demands from the agricultural sector will be at the highest during the scorching period between March-May-end. The period also coincides with academic examinations. Mr Reddy sought to know about possible power-purchase tie-ups, which help tide over any critical situation during summer.
