CM asks officials to speed up relief works

Hyderabad, October 23: Flood relief works have been going on at a slow pace in some areas and the affected people were still in need of attention, Chief Minister K Rosaiah observed.

Reviewing the relief and rehabilitation works in flood-hit areas of Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts here today, the Chief Minister asked the officials to speed up works and complete them on a war footing.

He emphasised the need to bring normalcy in the floodaffected areas as early as possible. Rosaiah also wanted the officials to complete disbursement of relief.

He said that no eligible person should be left in the disbursement of relief and directed the officials to send the details regarding the kith and kin of the deceased for submitting their names to the Prime Minister’s relief fund. The Chief Minister approved a proposal for release of Rs 10 crore for construction of temporary shelters for 22,000 families.

Roads and Buildings, Panchayati Raj and Municipal Administration departments have asked for second instalment of funds from the Government in the meeting.

These departments have been sanctioned Rs 185 crore earlier. Animal Husbandry Department requested the Chief Minister to provide Rs 7 crore for relief activities for which the latter gave his nod.

Rosaiah instructed principal secretaries and secretaries to monitor relief works on priority and directed the Housing Secretary to provide toilets at temporary shelters. He told the Managing Director of Housing Corporation to take up the help of NGOs in construction of temporary shelters.

It was decided in the meeting to depute special officers to guide the Central team which was to visit the flood-hit areas from October 26. Civil Supplies Commissioner informed that free ration was supplied in the affected areas and required quantities of rice, kerosene, palm oil, dal and sugar have been kept ready for November also.
