CM asks officials to issue GO by Aug 31

Hyderabad, August 30: Expressing surprise for keeping an issue (relating to police personnel) pending for a long time, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy today ordered senior officials concerned to issue a GO by Monday (August 31) effecting 30 percent hike in salaries of the staff working in Crime Investigation Department, Andhra Pradesh Police Academy, Intelligence Bureau and Police Training Centres in the State.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister’s orders to issue a GO within two days has made the officials panic since there was no sufficient time for them to workout the details and amount involved towards the pay hike.

Briefing newsmen about the decisions taken at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister to review `law and order’ at the State Secretariat this morning, Home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy said that Rajasekhara Reddy has immediately responded when the salary hike issue was brought to his notice. He directed the officials concerned to issue a GO by Monday for implementation of 30 percent salary hike to those working in CID, APPA, IB and PTC, she added.

With regard to Naxal-infected areas in the State, the Home minister asserted that the Government has full information about Naxalites movement in the State. The Chief Minister has stressed the need for providing employment to unemployed youth living in remote areas in order to wean them away from Naxal influence, she noted.

Asked about TDP MLA TV Rama Rao, Sabita Reddy remarked that the TDP was trying to `politicise’ the issue by resorting to counter-attack the Congress Government. She asserted that the Government has no grudge against the MLA, but has only taken action based on facts of the incident.

Answering to a query, the Home Minister said that the Government was fully geared up and prepared to meet any eventuality in connection with the ensuing Ganesh Nimmajjanam and Ramzan festival. A total of 27,000 police personnel were deployed on duty for Ganesh nimmajjanam as against 14,000 forces last year. Similarly, additional forces were also deployed at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Warangal.

According to a press release by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the senior officials concerned to conduct a survey of all the naxal-affected areas and to review the situation once in six months. As for issue of counterfeit notes especially in Rs.1000 denomination, the Chief Minister has directed the officials to be more vigilant and bust such rackets, and to take stringent action against the guilty.

Government advisor (Public affairs) and MP KVP Ramachandra Rao, Principal secretary to CM Jannat Hussain, were among those present.
