Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday announced that the government would name 45 residential schools of Backward Classes after social reformer Mahatama Jyotiba Phule.
Addressing a programme organized under Backward Classes department at Ravindra Bharati to mark 186th Jayanthi of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, the Chief Minister lauded the services of Jyotiba Phule for the upliftment of under-privileged sections of the society. As mark of respect to Jyotiba phule, he said that the government would name 45 BC residential schools after Jyotiba Phule and increase their budget from Rs 50 crore to Rs 75 crores.
He reiterated that transparency would be maintained in implementation of welfare programmes meant for SC/ST/BCs.
The Chief Minister said that the government was giving top priority for BC welfare and allotted Rs 3,017 crore of funds in the State budget. Apart from this, the government has allotted Rs 209 crores for BC Welfare Corporation and seven federations this year compared to Rs 9.5 crore last year.
Stating that there was no paucity of funds for the welfare schemes, he appealed to officials and ministers to take government welfare schemes to the doorsteps of people. He said that the government was establishing 737 model schools each with a cost of Rs 3 crore in the next two years in the state.
The government was also constructing 355 hostels for girls at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore each. The government would also provide Rs 2,000 crore for providing basic amenities in the schools in the State. He appealed to students to concentrate on their studies and achieve set goals through hard work. He said that the development of backward communities would be possible only through higher education.
Out of Rs 22,000 crore allotted in the country, he said that the state government has provided Rs 10,000 crore loans for women groups under the Indira Kranthi scheme.
Earlier, the Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Jyotiba puhule statue at Amberpet and paid rich tributes to him.
Ministers Basavaraj Saraiah, Danam Nagender, M Mukesh Goud, MPs Anjan kumar Yadav and V Hanumantha Rao, MLA Rajender and BC Association president R Krishnaiah also participated in the programme. (INN)
