Bangalore, December 23: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today formally announced Yadgir, the state’s 30th district carved out of Gulbarga district, will become a reality from December 30.
Mr Yeddyurappa told the Legislative Assembly here, Yadgir would be the headquarters of the new district and comprise of Shahpur, Surpur and Yadgir Taluks. He said the Cabinet meeting of the BJP government held in Gulbarga on September 26, took the decision to bifurcate Gulbarga for better administration.
With this, the state would have 30 districts from the end of this year. The government has expedited the formation of the new district following direction from the Census department of the Centre that no revenue village, taluk, sub-division and district border would be altered after December 31, in the view of the population enumeration work to be taken up by the officials till March 2011, he said.
