UP CM Akhilesh pitches National Health Insurance Scheme for poor

Lucknow, June 7 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday anounced a scheme for providing medical aid to the poor at subsidised rates.

Yadav, who made the announcement of launching the the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at a press conference here, said that his government has always worked for welfare of the poor.

“Uttar Pradesh has continuously been working in the area of health and the Samajwadi Party has always tried to save the money of the poor people by providing them either free medical aid or at subsidised rates,” he said.

Yadav blamed the former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government for not taking initiatives to bring in this scheme in Uttar Pradesh.

“It”s correct that the responsibility and the effort which was required to work and introduce this scheme amongst the poor was missing in the previous ruling provincial government. What was the reason? But they got their punishment. They were thrown out by the public and in whichever health related schemes they left something missing they got punishment for that also,” he said.

A workshop was also organised here to discuss the highlights of the National Health Insurance Scheme. The workshop was also attended by the representatives of various states.

The National Health Insurance Scheme launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment aims at providing health insurance to people who are below poverty line so that they can get medical aid either free or at subsidised rates. (ANI)
