Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has administered pulse polio drops to children at the Camp Office on the occasion of “National Immunisation Day” on Sunday.
The Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh has been a polio-free State since 2008 and appealed to work with the same spirit to achieve zero polio status across the country by 2012. The Chief Minister also released a special brochure on the occasion.
Secunderabad MP M Anjan Kumar Yadav, Principal Secretary Health KRatna Kishore, GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu, Hyderabad district Collector Natrajan Gulzar and other senior officials were also present.
The first round of ‘pulse polio’ started on Sunday and the second round will begin on April 1st, this year. This year the main focus will be on vulnerable groups like beggar communities, nomadic tribes, fishermen community, migratory families and construction sector labour families.
The focus will also be on urban slum dwellers, residents of semi urban areas overlapping the surrounding panchayats, new colonies outside the towns and tourist groups. Families with working hours that do not coincide with the team visits and agricultural families living/working in the fields will also be focused.
A total number of 63,776 PPI booths and 1864 mobile teams were set up for the programme. (INN)
