Congress Legislature Party executive member K Laxma Reddy on Friday justified the restriction for leaders to address press conferences from the CLP office.
Talking to media persons at the CLP office, Laxma Reddy said that the CLP’s executive committee took a unanimous decision over the conduct of press briefings at CLP and it has been made compulsory for all the leaders to take prior permission to hold a presser. He said that some leaders were using the CLP premises to damage the party’s image and targeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Laxma Reddy said that the leaders would have to brief the CLP over the subject on which they propose to address the press conference. He said that the modalities have been changed to prevent misuse of CLP for targeting party and leadership.
Responding to former minister P Shankar Rao’s criticism against the CLP for showing discrimination on him as he belonged to Dalit community, Laxma Reddy dismissed his charges and said that the Congress was treating all individuals equally. “The Congress is not showing discrimination towards any community and treating all castes and communities equally,” he said.
Responding to filing of complaint by Shankar Rao against the Chief Minister under the SC/ST Atrocity (Prevention) Act, he said that the police would act as per law. He said the Congress High Command would look into issue of taking disciplinary action against Shankar Rao.
