Cloudy sky brings respite from cold

Srinagar, February 05: People of Jammu and Kashmir today got some respite from the intense cold as night temperature in the state rose due to cloudy skies. Srinagar recorded a low of 1.6 deg C today against minus 1.5 deg C yesterday.

The normal temperature during this part of the season in the city is minus 2.0 deg C, Met department officials said. Gulmarg was the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 5.6 deg C against minus 9.9 deg C yesterday.

Similarly, the minimum temperature in Pahalgam was minus 3.5 deg C against minus 6.2 deg C yesterday. The night temperature also improved in Qazigund (minus 1.0 deg C), Kupwara (1.4 deg C) and Kokernag (0.1 deg C).

The minimum temperature also increased in Jammu region by few notches with the city recording a low of 8.2 deg C against 7.6 deg C yesterday. Batote recorded 4.0 deg C, Bhaderwah 1.7 deg C and Banihal minus 0.4 deg C. Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold as Leh recorded a low of minus 12.4 deg C and Kargil minus 9.0 deg C today.

Both the districts had recorded minus 14.0 deg C yesterday.
