Clouds of uncertainty hover over AKNU

Rajhmundary, July 01: Clouds of uncertainty continue to hover over the future of Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU), as the efforts of revenue officials to survey land for the university in Vengayammapuram village of Jaggampet mandal were thwarted by locals.

The villagers protested and prevented the officials of Jaggampeta tahsildar office from surveying and taking possession of the land for the university. The villagers complained to Jaggamp e t a ML A T h o t a Narasimham on the issue who in turn managed to stop it. Though the officials tried to convince the people, the villagers were in no mood to listen.

It may be noted that officials decided to shift its premises from Velugubanda village recently. The revenue department identified 224 acres of ceiling land in the survey number 469/2. Joint collector, Peddapuram revenue divisional officer and Jaggampeta tahsildar also inspected the site. Earlier, the revenue department identified about 350 acres of land in Mallisala village of Jaggampet mandal but, later, the university decided to acquire land in Vengayammapuram village, resulting in fresh trouble.

Though the revenue officials could acquire thousands of acres for industries within hours in Velugubanda village of Rajanagaram mandal, sadly they couldn’t procure just 300 acres of land for the university.

Lack of land and dearth of funds hampered the university development. The government didn’t bother to appoint Vice-Chancellor for the university even six months after the expiry of term of first VC Kandula Niruparani.

As the efforts of elected public representatives were also proved futile in securing land for the university, AKNU Prangana Parirakshana Samithi came into existence with some likeminded people in the city.

Meanwhile, students are staging protests demanding that AKNU shouldn’t be shifted from Velugubanda village.
